The Filtron OP572 oil filter is an essential component of the engine’s lubrication system, playing a crucial role in maintaining the engine in good condition over time. Engine oil, which continuously circulates through the engine, serves cooling and cleaning functions, removing residues of burnt fuel and other contaminants. These impurities can increase the oil’s viscosity, reducing its effectiveness and, over time, potentially leading to engine damage.
Role of the Oil Filter:
The oil filter is responsible for capturing fine particles such as soot, metal fragments, and other contaminants that may enter the engine oil. As a result, the engine oil remains clean, ensuring effective lubrication and protection against wear, while also improving the engine’s overall performance.
Benefits of Replacing the Oil Filter:
A worn-out oil filter clogged with contaminants restricts oil flow and lowers pressure in the lubrication system. This leads to reduced engine lubrication, which can result in the engine overheating. Failing to replace the oil filter in a timely manner can also damage the oil pump and, in the worst-case scenario, cause engine seizure.
Oil Filter Replacement:
The oil filter should be replaced during every engine oil change, and in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. Leaving an old filter in place allows previously trapped contaminants to enter the engine along with the fresh oil. While it may seem like skipping the filter change saves money, it is in fact a poor decision that negatively affects the engine’s longevity.
